The National 3 Peaks Challenge is undoubtedly our most popular charity event. If you are seeking to create a real buzz, while smashing your fundraising targets then this could be the event for you. This highly popular challenge involves trekking to the summit of Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike with just the drive time between mountains to rest and recover. While not to be underestimated, with plenty of training, the National 3 Peaks Challenge is achievable by anyone with a good level of fitness.

Price: £ 450 per person
Days: 3 (Including travel to Scotland and overnight stay)
Grade: Hard
Start Location: Coventry or Starting Point of your choice
Finish Location: Coventry or Finishing Point of your choice
Vehicle: Coach (33 Seat Executive Coach) or similar
Guides: Qualified Mountain Leaders (First aid qualified and highly experienced) Accommodation: Basic hostel accommodation
Food: Breakfast before challenge and Evening meal prior to climbing Scafell GENERAL NOTES
1.The timings above are based on a 30 hour completion time

2.To complete the challenge in 30 hours you need to be highly organised and fit

3.After 30 hours, the challenge will be terminated due to driving regulations

4.We deduct any driver breaks from your completion time (only hill time and drive time count)

LOGISTICS

Day 1

06:00 – Meet coach and Sky Blue Adventures Team.Board your vehicle (33 seat executive coach and commence your journey to Scotland (Fort William)

16:00 – Arrive in Fort William and drop bags at hostel

18:00 – Evening Meal in local restaurant (TBC)

21:00 – Early to bed in preparation for the early start tomorrow

Day 2

05:00 – Early breakfast (Continental)

05:30 – Transfer to Ben Nevis start point

06:00 – Commence Challenge (Ben Nevis)

11:30 – Complete Ben Nevis and board the coach

18:00 – Arrive Gosforth (Pub dinner)

19:00 – Shuttle to Scafell Pike using smaller vehicles (the roads are too narrow for the main coach)

19:30 – Start climbing Scafell Pike
23:30 – Team down from Scafell Pike (Shuttle back to main coach)
00:30 – Arrive back to main coach (change of clothes and a short sleep on coach)

Day 3

03:00 – Coach departs for Mount Snowdon
07:00 – Coach arrives at Mount Snowdon (Pen-Y-Pas) 12:00 – Team members back down from Snowdon

12:15 – Commence journey home
16:30 – Arrive back in Coventry

GENERAL NOTES

  1. The coach will need to be parked in Gosforth (close to Scafell Pike)f or9 hours due to drivers regulations
  2. This 9 hour break will give us time to have a quick pub meal, transfer to the mountain and a short sleep after we return to the coach
  3. In our experience the break at Gosforth increases the completion rate (more inclusive)
  4. We deduct all drivers breaks from your challenge time (only hill time and drive time are counted)
  5. The timings detailed above may vary due to team fitness levels and traffic
  6. The participants can be split into separate teams according to their ability

TRAVEL, TIMINGS & LOGISTICS

The time taken to complete the challenge is calculated by adding your team’s mountain (walking) time to the travel time (i.e. there may be scope to split groups on the mountain depending on how things are going). Historically the challenge aims to be completed in 30 hours. In order to achieve this, you need a good level of fitness and ideally some mountain and hill walking experience.

As far as possible we will try to keep to the times, however, it is impossible to predict what may happen on our way and difficult weather conditions can have a big impact on our timings.
