Join us on this adventure in Borneo where we challenge ourselves on mountains, jungles, rivers and seas! This is one that we put together ourselves for an adventure that no one else is offering!

  • Trek up Mount Kinabalu at 4000m with exciting Via Ferrata Climb at the top

Borneo Adventure – Itinerary 

DAY 1 – Arrive Kota Kinabalu – Borneo – Arrive in the exciting Capital of Borneo Kota Kinabalu (KK) – relax Overnight at Akinabalu Youth Hostel.

DAY 2Kota Kinabalu Briefing –  we take in our surroundings by the South China Sea. Team briefing that evening and final checklist before departure to Mount Kinabalu the following morning. Overnight at Akinabalu Youth Hostel.

DAY 3 Climb Mt Kinabalu

Early start as we drive to the national Park and start our ascent up Mount Kinabalu. Hike through the forest to reach our Mountain Hut for the night where we will receive instruction and equipment for the following day’s climb and Via Ferrata!

Today you will start your climbing Mount Kinabalu adventure. You will be collected at 6:30am from your Hostel and your private minibus transfers will transfer you to Kinabalu Park Headquarters (a ~ 2 – 2.5 hour journey). On arrival you will register for your climb and then be transferred to Timpohan Gate – the starting point for your trek to Pendent Hut. You will need to arrive at Pendant Hut before 3pm – at 3pm you will join the mandatory Via Ferrata familiarisation briefing session. Dinner at Laban Rata Restaurant.

DAY 4Climb Mt Kinabalu

An early wake up (~ 2am) and start your trek up to Low’s Peak Summit. Reach the summit (take a few celebratory photos) and watch the sunrise over the Crocker Mountain Range. Start to head back to Pendent Hut and on the way back you will complete the Walk the Torq activity (this will take 2 – 3 hours to complete). Head back to Pendent Hut for breakfast before starting your trek back down to Timpohan Gate (a 4 – 5 hour trek). On arrival at Timpohan Gate you will be transferred by minibus back to the entrance area for Kinabalu Park Headquarters. You can choose to buy lunch at a cafe at Kinabalu Park Haedquarters. Once the group is all back at Kinabalu Park Headquarters (expected by late afternoon) you will start your transfer back to Kota Kinabalu to your Hostel. Arrive back at KK late afternoon / early evening.

DAY 5Snorkelling Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park

Today you will join a Guided Snorkelling Trip in the tropical waters of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park (as part of our scheduled trip). A perfect way to relax before your trekking adventure starts tomorrow! Meet for 8:45am at the entrance to Jesselton Point Jetty – our Instructors will meet you here and escort you to our boat(s) for a 9am boat departure. You’ll be in small groups per PADI Instructor ensuring you have a high quality, safe and fun snorkelling experience. During the lunch break you could choose to ride the Coral Flyer island to island zip line for some added adventure (at extra cost). After you’ve finished your snorkeling activities in the afternoon we cruise slowly back to Jesselton Jetty in central KK. Overnight at Akinabalu Youth Hostel.

DAY 6Kiulu White Water rafting

You’ll be collected from your Hostel around 8:30am and travel for 1.5hrs by minibus to the Kiulu River rafting starting point. On arrival you’ll be provided with a full safety briefing before kitting up ready for your white water rafting adventure. The White Water Rafting Kiulu Sabah Borneo Trip covers up to 15km of the Kiulu River, making it one of the longest white water rafting trip in Sabah, Borneo! Your journey along the Kiulu River will take about 1 – 2 hours depending upon how fast the river is flowing. After the rafting journey you will have chance to shower and change in the changing room facilities on site before taking a break for a spot of lunch, alongside the Kiulu river. You’ll then be transferred back to your Hostel in Kota Kinabalu arriving back ~ 2:00pm. Rest of afternoon free & easy to explore Kota Kinabalu.

DAY 7Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, Sun Bear Conservation Centre & Kinabatangan River

Join a wildlife adventure in the Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary as you spend two nights at a Lodge located along the Kinabatangan River. Over the next three days join wildlife encounter activities including 4 river cruises along the Kinabatangan River during which you’ll have the chance to see elephants (if they are in the area), orangutans, proboscis monkeys, macaques, gibbons and lots more, three treks in the rainforest located in the Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary, a visit Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and a visit to Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary.

DAY 8Kinabatangan River

Join two river cruises and a trek to an Oxbow Lake. In the evening you will join a traditional dance class led by Bilit Youth Club (from the nearby village) – a fun and engaging cultural highlight to your time at the Kinabatangan River.

DAY 9Kinabatangan River, Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary & Back to Kota Kinabalu

After an early morning river cruise and breakfast at the Kinaabatangan Lodge you’ll start your journey back to Sandakan. On the way you’ll visit a morning feeding session at Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary – a chance to watch the ‘Dutchman of Borneo’ up close as well as the chance to see Silver Leaf Monkey’s, Hornbills and more if you’re lucky. You’ll then be transferred to Sandakan Airport in time to catch a flight departing from 2pm onwards. On arrival at Kota Kinabalu you’ll be transferred to the 4* Grandis Hotel. This evening you will be staying in the Grandis Hotel as a treat on your last night. Don’t forget to visit the hotel’s Roof Top Bar and watch the sun set on a lovely tropical day!

DAY 10 Depart KK

Today you start your journey back home. You’ll have time in the morning to explore central KK or do some last minute gift shopping. Check out of the hotel by 12 noon. You will be collected from the hotel early – mid afternoon for your transfer to BKI Airport. It’s time to say goodbye to Borneo and start your journey back home.
